Elevate your home’s interiors and exteriors.

Wood siding is one of the most attractive of home siding options. The main drawbacks of wood siding are its high cost and relatively high maintenance needs. Wood siding is available in a wide variety of styles, textures, and finishes.

Typically, people choose either vertical or horizontal wood siding. Another option is the use of thin or thick boards, and/or large wood panels. Modern or contemporary home design often incorporates clean lines and wood siding is a perfect material to use.

Wood Siding & Exterior Paneling

National Hardwood Flooring & Moulding supplies wood siding and paneling materials to contractors and homeowners throughout Southern California. Our Van Nuys location stocks exterior siding panels, interior paneling, and installation supplies for residential and commercial projects. Since 1984, we have provided siding materials for new construction, renovations, and accent wall installations.

Types of Wood Siding

Our siding inventory includes profiles suited to different architectural styles and installation methods.

Shiplap Siding

Shiplap siding features overlapping joints where the top edge of each board fits behind the bottom edge of the board above. The profile creates visible shadow lines between boards and allows for wood movement without exposing gaps. Shiplap installs horizontally on exterior walls and interior accent walls.

We stock shiplap in cedar, redwood, and pine species. Board widths range from 6 inches to 8 inches in standard lengths of 8, 10, and 12 feet.

Tongue & Groove Siding

Tongue and groove siding connects adjacent boards with interlocking edges. The tongue on one board fits into the groove on the next, creating a tight joint. Tongue and groove profiles suit both horizontal and vertical installation orientations.

We stock tongue and groove siding in multiple widths and species for exterior and interior applications.

Board & Batten Siding

Board and batten siding combines wide vertical boards with narrow cover strips at the joints. The batten strips create a distinctive vertical pattern on building exteriors. Board and batten suits farmhouse, contemporary, and rustic architectural styles.

We supply boards and battens in cedar, redwood, and other species for exterior installation.

Lap Siding

Lap siding, also called clapboard or bevel siding, installs horizontally with each board overlapping the one below. The tapered profile creates shadow lines and sheds water away from the wall surface. Lap siding provides a traditional appearance for residential exteriors.

We stock lap siding in widths from 4 inches to 8 inches in cedar and redwood species.

Channel Rustic Siding

Channel rustic siding features a rabbeted overlap that creates a shadow channel between boards. The profile provides weather protection while creating a distinctive horizontal pattern. Channel rustic works well for cabins, mountain homes, and rustic architectural styles.

Wood Species for Siding

Species selection affects the siding appearance, durability, and maintenance requirements.

Western Red Cedar

Cedar provides natural resistance to decay, insects, and moisture. The species displays a reddish-brown color when new, weathering to gray without finish treatment. Cedar accepts stains and paints well for colored applications. Cedar siding requires periodic maintenance to retain its original color. The lightweight material handles easily during installation. Cedar costs less than redwood and imported hardwoods while providing durable exterior performance.

Redwood

California redwood offers natural durability and a distinctive reddish tone. The heartwood resists decay without chemical treatment. Redwood siding suits homes in forested and coastal environments where natural appearance is the design priority. Clear and select redwood grades provide consistent appearance with minimal knots. Common grades include visible character marks for rustic applications.

Pine

Pine siding costs less than cedar and redwood but requires protective finishes for exterior installation. Pressure-treated pine resists decay when properly finished. The species accepts paint well and suits applications where color rather than wood grain is the desired appearance.

Cypress

Cypress provides natural decay resistance similar to cedar. The species displays a light color with subtle grain patterns. Cypress siding is available in limited quantities and suits projects specifying regional or traditional materials.

Interior vs Exterior Applications

Wood paneling serves both interior and exterior purposes with different material and finish requirements.

Exterior Siding Requirements

Exterior siding must withstand moisture, UV exposure, and temperature changes. Species with natural decay resistance or pressure treatment perform well in exterior applications. Finish coatings including stains, paints, and sealers protect wood surfaces from weathering.

Proper installation with adequate ventilation behind the siding prevents moisture accumulation and decay. Flashing and trim details protect vulnerable areas around windows, doors, and corners.

Interior Paneling Applications

Interior wood paneling adds texture and warmth to walls and ceilings. Species without decay resistance work well for interior applications where moisture exposure is limited. Clear finishes display natural wood grain while paints provide colored surfaces.

Shiplap and tongue and groove profiles suit interior accent walls, ceiling applications, and full-room paneling. We stock paneling products for both rustic and refined interior designs.

Bathroom & Kitchen Applications

Moisture exposure in bathrooms and kitchens requires species and finishes rated for damp environments. Cedar and redwood perform better than pine in areas with humidity. Sealed finishes prevent moisture penetration and surface damage.

Installation Supplies for Siding

We stock products required for siding installation beyond the siding boards.

Fasteners

Stainless steel and hot-dipped galvanized nails resist corrosion in exterior applications. Ring-shank nails provide holding power in siding installations. We stock fasteners sized for different siding thicknesses and installation methods.

House Wrap & Weather Barriers

Weather-resistant barriers behind siding prevent moisture infiltration while allowing vapor to escape. We supply house wrap products compatible with wood siding installations.

Trim & Corner Boards

Corner boards, window trim, and fascia complete siding installations. We stock trim components in species matching our siding inventory.

Finish Products

Exterior stains, paints, and sealers protect wood siding from weathering. We carry finish products formulated for cedar, redwood, and treated pine siding.
